Archived Post: Everest Base Camp Training – September 2010

Our team is working very hard right now training for our October trek to the Khumbu region of Nepal culminating in a visit to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and a climb of Kala Patthar (18,192 ft (5545m)).  The trek will run from October 2nd through the 21st and take us from Denver to Doha Qatar, Kathmandu, Lukla, and then the 75 mile circuit to EBC and back.

We started our training for the trek in July with a goal of climbing 6, 14,000 ft peaks in Colorado (“14’ers”) to build up our high altitude fitness and general fitness.  Our training is logged on our Summit of Everest Group Facebook page and on the EBC Trek update page here.

As of today, we have successfully summited Grays Peak, Torrey’s Peak (both twice), Mt. Evans, Mt. Spaulding, Mt. Bierstadt (twice), Pikes Peak, Mt. Lincoln, Mt. Cameron, Mt. Democrat, and Mt. Bross.  Additionally, we have been biking (up to 30 miles per), running (3-5 miles per) and generally trying to reduce “packing weight” (aka “fat”) from our middle aged bodies.

Our goals are simple – we want to engage in an activity that will challenge our minds, bodies, and spirit.  Much like the challenges our customers and the people we work with in our non-profit activities face everyday.  In addition to catching up with and enjoying our families, upon our return, we’ll be working on new business projects with our customers, continuing to devote time to our non-profit projects, and adding new efforts in both areas.

We welcome your feedback and invite you to track our progress!
